For example if your a computer science student looking for summer internships, what do you want to intern as? Software engineer, Product Management, Data science, etc. Find a hybrid of what you are interested in and what you are good at.
Now you do not have to cater your resume to each individual company, but I will say it will give you a higher success rate. We want to optimize your efficiency, so also keep this in mind. Catering your resume to each individual company will take a lot of time. If you are applying to internships it might not benefit you as much. Depending on your resumes relevancy to the role you are going to have to determine this yourself. If you are applying to multiple roles for each different role you should have a different resume. This highly depends on how different each role is from each other, but you get the point.
The easy to use template that we have provided is perfect for most entry to mid level positions. For higher level positions with a lot of requirements you may want to look into a CV. Harvard and MIT’s guide on CV’s are also linked down below in the additional resource section.
This is the easiest part of your resume because it is all based on known facts. Personally I like to start with the header and slowly move down through the resume. (saving the bullet points for last)
For example before I landed my first tech internship the only thing I had that related to the role was my personal projects and education. So use that to your advantage. The goal for your resume is to just get an interview.
